Describe the feeling of sharing this experience with your family. As a box owner and active head coach, what was it like seeing your kids join in the thing you’ve poured so much into yourself?
My husband, Lawrence and I have 2 boys. Odin, 9 and Gray, 7. We are all super active and love a good challenge. Sharing this experience with my family has been extremely fulfilling. I’ve been competing for a long time now but this was the first time I got to compete alongside both of my boys. Watching them in action and seeing what they’re capable of has been amazing.
What was your favorite part of the workouts? Which one was the best? (for your kids?
I think it’s safe to say for all of us, our favorite part was finishing each workout. That feeling of accomplishment is like no other. Each of us having some event wins is icing on the paleo cake. My best was 24.3. For some crazy reason, I love burpee box jump overs and dumbbell snatches. Odin set a goal before going into 24.1 and then crushed it. He was in so much misery during the 6th, 7th, and 8th rounds of rowing that he started tearing up and crying out in pain but refused to quit. He just kept screaming to himself, “I can do this!” After finishing, he fell off the rower onto the floor and was the proudest he’s ever been. It was such an amazing moment and he is very fortunate to have learned something very special about himself in that workout. #YouCantTeachHeart My youngest, Gray smashed 24.6. He got into the zone and burpee’d his heart out. My husband and I couldn’t be happier for them both.
What do you think you all learned about yourself from the process?
Throughout this process, I think I learned more about my kids than I did myself. Both my husband and I saw a side of our boys we had never seen before. They showed us that they can push themselves beyond what they believed possible and come out the other side feeling absolutely amazing. They proved to themselves, they can do hard things. They both had tears and pushed through, refusing to quit. Learning this about themselves is only setting them up for success in all areas of their life. Mental toughness!
As for myself, I learned I’m able to hold it together for my kids and an entire team of athletes, while focusing on myself as well. I enjoy competing at a competitive level and I proved to myself, that while it’s definitely challenging, I can still do that while being there for my kids and my CrossFit Lake Travis community. I absolutely love being an affiliate owner and head coach. I truly enjoy watching our athletes grow and learn what they’re capable of while helping them along their journey.
Anything else you’d like us to know?
A Huge Thank You to The Fittest Experience for giving me the opportunity to compete alongside my boys. We hold our athletes to the highest of standards at CrossFit Lake Travis and my boys were no exception. Although he didn’t compete, my family is not complete without my unbelievably, supportive husband. He is our biggest cheerleader. I’m sure, whoever is watching our videos will hear his voice loud and proud. Thanks again TFX, Looking forward to competing in January! Let’s go!
